Kensington Palace has tonight shared a new message from Catherine and William following her cancer announcement.
The message reads: “The Prince and Princess are both enormously touched by the kind messages from people here in the UK, across the Commonwealth and around the world in response to Her Royal Highness’ message. They are extremely moved by the public’s warmth and support and are grateful for the understanding of their request for privacy at this time.”
The Princess of Wales shocked the world on Friday when she revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer and had begun treatment.
In a two-minute video shared by Kensington Palace, Catherine said that the planned, major abdominal surgery she underwent in January was thought to have been for a non-cancerous condition, however tests after the fact had revealed cancer was present. Her medical team then advised that she begin a round of preventative chemotherapy, which she has begun.
Though Kensington Palace had announced at the time that the royal would be off duties until after Easter, it did not stop gross and rampant online speculation about Catherine’s health, wellbeing and state of her marriage, as conspiracy theorists and social media trolls began questioning her whereabouts and demanding proof of life.
It has now been revealed that Catherine and William delayed sharing the news of her medical condition to allow themselves time to process, her time to heal from surgery before beginning chemo, and to explain to Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis in a reassuring way that she will be okay.
Catherine said: “I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.
“Having William by my side is a great source of comfort and reassurance too. As is the love, support and kindness that has been shown by so many of you. It means so much to us both.
“We hope that you will understand that, as a family, we now need some time, space and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy and I look forward to being back when I am able, but for now I must focus on making a full recovery.
“At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer. For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”
