The Queen has held her first face to face meeting with the Prime Minister for over fifteen months as she welcomed him to Buckingham Palace for their traditional weekly audience.

Her Majesty and Boris Johnson have held their regular meetings by phone since March 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic took hold.

However, on June 23rd 2021, the Monarch and her Prime Minister were reunited with Mr Johnson remarking on the length of time that had passed since they were last able to speak in person.

”It’s most extraordinary, isn’t it?’ The Queen replied when Boris Johnson told her that their previous face to face meeting had been fifteen months earlier. And she told him ”things are getting better”, to which the Prime Minister said ”yes, they are.”

The Queen and Boris Johnson’s last face to face audience had been on March 11th 2020. Days afterwards, The Queen headed to Windsor Castle where she has spent the majority of the past fifteen months. The first national lockdown in the UK was announced soon after that, on March 23rd 2020.

The Queen traditionally holds a weekly audience with her Prime Minister at which she has the right to express her views on government matters. Their conversations always remain private.
