The Sussexes

Which faith has Lilibet Diana been baptised into?

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had their daughter baptised into the Episcopal church.

Lilibet Diana was christened at her parents’ home on March 3rd 2023.

The baptism was carried out by the Bishop of Los Angeles, John H. Taylor. He is a leader in the Episcopal Church, part of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Lilibet’s grandfather, King Charles III, is the Supreme Governor of the Church of England, one of the largest bodies within the Anglican Communion. In a statement, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said ””I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor.’

The Rev. Taylor’s title is officially Bishop of Los Angeles. The Archbishop of Los Angeles is a Catholic, Jose Gomez.

However, Catholics are still barred from ascending the throne in Great Britain. Had the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to baptise their daughter into the Roman Catholic church, she would have lost her place in the line of succession.
