A member of the U.S. House of Representatives, Jason Smith, has written a letter to the British Ambassador to the United States, Dame Karen Pierce, saying that The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are ‘interfering” in the U.S. presidential elections. Smith asserts that the Sussexes are working against President Trump and that they should be stripped of all ‘titles, styles, and privileges.’ Smith represents Missouri’s 8th Congressional District and is a fierce supporter of President Trump.
Smith went on to say that the Royal Family has long observed a tradition of political neutrality and labelled their activities as an “inappropriate act of domestic interference by one of our closest allies.” The couple appeared in a TIME video last month urging people to vote, though no political party was named in the video. Neither Buckingham Palace or the British Embassy in Washington have commented on Smith’s letter.
