The Duchess of Sussex becomes first royal to be nominated for Teen Choice Award

The Duchess of Sussex has experienced a series of firsts as part of the Royal Family, and now she faces another as the first member of the Royal Family to be nominated for a Teen Choice Award.

The Duchess is up for the Teen Choice Style Icon Award, with past winners like Miley Cyrus and Britney Spears.

Meghan is up against Harry Styles, Migos, Blake Lively, Chadwick Boseman and Zendaya. Zendaya also took home the award in 2014.

The show was started in 1999 so the stylish Diana, Princess of Wales, would have never had the chance to be considered.

Its safe to assume Meghan will not be personally attending the awards held in California, but should she win, an acceptance video would be a lovely surprise to fans.

She will also have to find space at Nottingham Cottage for the full-sized surfboard award.

The Duchess is also up to be nominated for an Emmy. She is currently submitted for consideration for her performance as Rachel Zane in Suits. Hopes are that Meghan will up for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Emmy nominations will be announced on 12 July.

Meghan’s style has a following of its own with blogs dedicated to finding and curating her personal style. When she wears an outfit, every detail, no matter the price, sells out within minutes.

The Duchess of Cambridge had the same effect when she joined the Royal Family, dubbed the “Kate Effect”. The “Meghan Effect” might have even more of an appeal as Meghan’s laidback style is more practical for day to day life of the average lady.

Replicas of the Givenchy wedding dress the Duchess wore were created in less than a day, and dressmakers have reported a surge of brides asking for a similar style.

You can secure the Duchess of Sussex’s win by casting a vote on the official Teen Choice site.
