Not too long ago, the world watched as Prince Harry married the then Meghan Markle at St George’s Chapel in Windsor. With what is sure to be one of Her Royal Highness’s most memorable dresses, fashion’s long-reigning queen, Anna Wintour is breaking her silence on what her thoughts were of the famous dress.
Meghan ended up sporting a Givenchy gown for the big day and Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour approves.
“I think she’s amazing,” said Wintour in Vogue’s new web series, “Go Ask Anna.” Wintour then went on to add, “The royal wedding had the whole world watching. I think that her choice [a couture Claire Waight Keller creation] was brilliant. It was sophisticated; it was chic, it was grown up. It was an English designer, albeit one that was working for a French house, which in a way was a message to the world: “Yes, I’m from somewhere else, but I belong.”
The 69-year-old Vogue honcho could not stop praising Meghan and, she even dished on Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge. “I think the two duchesses, the young duchesses that they have in Britain – The Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex – are going to keep the royal family afloat quite frankly.”
The Duchess of Sussex has also recently made headlines for her down-to-earth hobbies, which include meditation. Which in Wintour’s book, the concept is quite entertaining.
“I read somewhere that there were members of the royal household who were confused and upset that she woke up so early, at 5 a.m. She’s a normal California girl who gets up early and does yoga and meditates. And also sent a lot of text messages. I mean, what did they expect – that she was to send a message via pigeon?”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently expecting their first child that is due in late April. Last month, Meghan attended the British Fashion Show Awards in which she presented an award to her wedding dress designer, Clare Waight Keller.
