Prince Harry surprises Canadian Grey Cup fans

Canadians sat down across the country to watch the 104th Grey Cup, the championship game for the CFL, on Sunday night when none other than Prince Harry surprised the crowds at BMO Field in Toronto and those watching at home.

In a pre-recorded video, Prince Harry appealed to Canadians to come and “celebrate” and “support” the soldiers taking part in Invictus 2017 being held in Toronto. The short video Prince Harry says: “Hello Canada, I know you are all eagerly awaiting the kick-off of the 104th Grey Cup, but I just wanted to steal a moment of your time.

“2017 will be a very special year as Canada celebrates the 150th anniversary of confederation and 100 years since the Batlle of Vimy Ridge, these are defining moments in Canadian history. I can not think of a better way of paying tribute to the soldiers, veterans and their families who served their country so bravely like those stood on the field before you today and the many thousands watching at home. I hope you will join me in celebrating their service and support any of them who need it.

“Next year, Toronto will host the Invictus Games. The city will welcome hundreds of wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women from around the world competing against each other on the track, in the pool or on the field. Together they will show what is means to overcome adversity and embrace life. They fight together, they recover together. I hope you all get behind the Canadian team and join us for the Invictus Games here in Toronto. I guarantee you will be entertained, moved, and inspired of the very best of the human spirit. Thank you for your support, enjoy the game, see you in 2017!”

Prince Harry is currently half-way through a two-week tour of the Caribbean being taken on behalf of his Grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
