Prince Harry meets British and US team members of Walk of America

As their newly minted patron, Prince Harry spent time with the British and US team members who will be taking part in Walk of America.

The walk will start on 2 June in Los Angeles and over three months, the teams will walk from the West Coast to East Coast passing through places such as Colorado, Texas, Nashville and Kansas City.

The walk will wrap up in New York City on 6 September after the two teams of six walk 1000 miles.

During the small event on Wednesday afternoon in Knightsbridge, Prince Harry met Kemsley Whittlesey, Kevin Carr, Jonny Burns and John Mayhead from the UK team. Members of the American team at the event included Larry Hinkle and Fankie Perez.

Walk of America being supported by the Endeavor Fund and Support the Walk will help raise funds and awarness for veterans and the challenges they face after serving.

It was announced last week that Prince Harry would become patron of the walk as he “believes that just as countires fight together, more can be done to recover together too.”

Some of the team members addressed the room, including that of Kevin Carr who spoke of the importance of support for veterans noting that only a few months ago he almost took his own life when sitting at a top of a cliff.

Kensington Palace issued a statement upon the news that Prince Harry was taking on the role, that can be found on their official Twitter page, saying: “The Walk of America will create a platform to tell the stories of wounded veterans and their  journeys from injury to the present day, and encourage a wider conversation around veteran mental health.”

“The expedition will also raise vital funds for veterans both sides of the Atlantic.”

Prince Harry will not take part in the walk but with his American bride, Meghan Markle, it won’t be long until we see the couple travel to her home country.
