Legoland whitewashes Meghan Markle figure in Royal Wedding scene

What should have been an impressive feat of 39,960 bricks of Lego creating the royal wedding has turned into an embarrassing mistake for the Legoland team.

When unveiling the display, which will be up until November, TMZ pointed out that Meghan appears to be white.  The tiny Lego figures of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have matching skin colours, when in real life, Meghan is biracial.

After reaching out for a comment, Legoland responded to TMZ, saying: “Our small LEGOLAND figures are not detailed representations of any of the characters and are all built using a limited range of [primary] brick tones.”

However, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland is also featured and is represented appropriately (third figure from the left in the picture above). Another part of the display also has Mel B of the Spice Girls who is also true to nature.

While likely not a conscious choice, Meghan has dealt with increased racism since the beginning of her relationship with Prince Harry. When their relationship first came public, Harry had to release a statement asking for the media to treat her fairly.

“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into the relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say “this is the price he has to pay” and that “this is all part of the game”. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it’s her life and his,” read part of his statement.

The Legoland feature includes all of the Royal Family and Meghan’s family in front of Windsor Castle and took 592 hours to complete.

Within those 592 hours, it seems hard to believe they couldn’t have found a better-matched brick to Meghan’s skin colour. I could walk into my child’s room right now and likely step on one if they need the help.
