“Since he was young, Prince Harry has been very aware of the warmth that has been extended to him by members of the public. He feels lucky to have so many people supporting him and knows what a fortunate and privileged life he leads.“He is also aware that there is significant curiosity about his private life. He has never been comfortable with this, but he has tried to develop a thick skin about the level of media interest that comes with it. He has rarely taken formal action on the very regular publication on fictional stories that are written about him and he has worked hard to develop a professional relationship with the media, focused on his work and the issues he cares about.

“But the past week has seen a line crossed. His girlfriend, Meghan Markel, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper, the racial undertones of comment pieces, and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments. Some of it has been hidden from public – the nightly legal battles to keep defamatory stories out of papers; her mother having to struggle past photographers in order to get to her front door; the attempts of reporters and photographers to gain illegal entry into her home and the calls to police that followed; the substantial bribes offered by reporters to ex-boyfriends; the bombardment of nearly every friend, co-worker, and loved one in her life.
“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into the relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say “this is the price he has to pay” and that “this is all part of the game”. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it’s her life and his.
“He has asked for this statement to be issued in the hopes that those in the press who have been driving this story can pause and reflect before any further damage is done. He knows that it is unusual to issue a statement like this, but hopes fair-minded people will understand why he has felt it necessary to speak publicly.”
The press literally chased his mother to her death. It seems they learned nothing from that. Would love to see the whole lot of the media tarred and feathered. The public can live their personal lives in private and most of us respect that right for others. Perhaps it is time the decent public expressed our disapproval of the media’s behaviour by expressing it with our dollars. Stop buying any publication that prints all these private stories instead of public activities. Prince Harry does a lot of good work – that should be the focus of the newpapers – not his real or alleged private life.

I have lived a life, where certain people have done what happened to you and your girlfriend is about equal. I only ask, why have you and your girlfriend remained in the public eye, when you have so many ways of arranging security for your girlfriends’ family and her? Your mother and your brother had similar press attention; but, steps were taken to bring them out of the limelight; and, secure them from harassment of the sort that Meghan Markle’s mother received. We live in a Security State world; but, those with means and foresight orchestrate their public appearances with much thought put into it. You are dating a star. I will not comment on her roles or possible exposure. Still the Duchess of Cambridge has been firm about making certain that Prince George and Princess Charlotte only appear and have pictures taken under her control. Your mother attempted similar measures with you and Prince William, who supports his wife in such in many ways. I shall not begin to speak of what BBC “comedians” had to say recently about the personal life of your grandmother. Either some with the means from Royal Protective Service to SAS to rooms at the Palace for training have refused to come to your aide; or, someone is seeking publicity. I suggest if you do not know to think about it and act accordingly. Many nobles and aristocrats, that I have known never even began to have such public exposure, including Archduke Otto von Hapsburg, etc., etc. I would suggest that you concentrate on developing a girlfriend’s “soul;” through letters; and, long private talks, etc. Scott M.
