Kensington Palace has a released a strongly worded statement condemning the “racist and sexist” abuse that Prince Harry’s girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been receiving.
The statement released, which officially confirms the romance, says that Ms Markle ‘has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment’.
This abuse includes racism in comment pieces, smears on the front pages of newspapers, and online internet trolls tormenting her with racism and sexism.
The statement goes on to read that Prince Harry has decided a line has been crossed as to what constitutes news and what is an invasion of privacy.
STATEMENT IN FULL
“Since he was young, Prince Harry has been very aware of the warmth that has been extended to him by members of the public. He feels lucky to have so many people supporting him and knows what a fortunate and privileged life he leads.“He is also aware that there is significant curiosity about his private life. He has never been comfortable with this, but he has tried to develop a thick skin about the level of media interest that comes with it. He has rarely taken formal action on the very regular publication on fictional stories that are written about him and he has worked hard to develop a professional relationship with the media, focused on his work and the issues he cares about.
“He is also aware that there is significant curiosity about his private life. He has never been comfortable with this, but he has tried to develop a thick skin about the level of media interest that comes with it. He has rarely taken formal action on the very regular publication on fictional stories that are written about him and he has worked hard to develop a professional relationship with the media, focused on his work and the issues he cares about.
“But the past week has seen a line crossed. His girlfriend, Meghan Markel, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment. Some of this has been very public – the smear on the front page of a national newspaper, the racial undertones of comment pieces, and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments. Some of it has been hidden from public – the nightly legal battles to keep defamatory stories out of papers; her mother having to struggle past photographers in order to get to her front door; the attempts of reporters and photographers to gain illegal entry into her home and the calls to police that followed; the substantial bribes offered by reporters to ex-boyfriends; the bombardment of nearly every friend, co-worker, and loved one in her life.
“Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into the relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say “this is the price he has to pay” and that “this is all part of the game”. He strongly disagrees. This is not a game – it’s her life and his.
“He has asked for this statement to be issued in the hopes that those in the press who have been driving this story can pause and reflect before any further damage is done. He knows that it is unusual to issue a statement like this, but hopes fair-minded people will understand why he has felt it necessary to speak publicly.”
Good God, leave them both alone. There are much more serious problems to deal with in the world today. I don’t know why these so called writers cannot find something else to write about. The world today is a absolute mess. Why don;t they deal with that and let Harry live his as he chooses.
Because it sells newspapers. Simple as that. Can’t say I’ve red any of them!
Yes, you are so right. I have trouble trying to take care of my own life.
Amen to that Lois Ruggles.wouldn’t sell if we the public refused to tolerate such torture and exploitation of the privacy as news. Bravo to the crown and public to take a stand for right.
Leave them alone – it is his private life and he should be allowed to let that develop without the scrutiny of the retarded press who have nothing better to do than run someone down and promote stories that are so exaggerated they don’t even resemble the truth. Prince Harry is entitled to privacy when it comes to his private life whether we like it or not so leave him alone.
Of course you can have your fun…… but this woman is defo not for you Harry, we don´t want another skandal, remembered Mrs Simpson? and she is not fit for you, cus we all have to like her like we did when William met Katherine, she was perfect! had a clean pass, and did not dropped her cloths for fotoshootings etc well you know? since you are not just looking for a fun parter and so!!!! you need to find a suitable person. just saying…..
Couldn’t agree more with your comment! This is not Universal Studio but the British Monarchy and Royal family!I am surprised by Prince Harry’s immature behaviour and pretty disappointed by his poor choice of a partner .Hope he changes his mind!
