Duke and Duchess of Sussex ask Instagram followers who their ‘forces for change’ are

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking to their Instagram followers for suggestions on who to follow for the month of August.

“We want to know who YOUR Force for Change is,” reads the caption on the SussexRoyal Instagram account, a call-back to the September issue of British Vogue that Meghan recently guest-edited, themed around Forces for Change.

“Each month, we change the accounts we follow to highlight various causes, people or organisations doing amazing things for their communities and the world at large.”

Harry and Meghan are urging their followers to leave suggestions in the comments on the post, and they can be “someone you look up to, the organisation doing amazing work that we should all be following, an account that inspires you to be and do better (or that simply makes you feel good), or the handle that brims with optimism for a brighter tomorrow.”

Since the Sussexes began highlighting 15 accounts on their Instagram account, they have turned their focus to the environment (July), pride and LGBTQ+ (June), and mental health (May).

Some of the suggestions from their followers for August include those that focus on Alzheimer’s Disease awareness, brands that donate a portion of their sales to causes, environmental groups and activists, and even the Duchess of Cambridge and The Queen.

The Forces for Change idea was inspired by Meghan’s British Vogue issue, which she says, in her guest editor’s letter, “is about the power of the collective.”

Meghan writes, “In identifying our personal strengths, it is anchored in the knowledge that we are even stronger together. You will find that spirit of inclusivity on the cover: diverse portraiture of women of varying age, colour, creed, nationality and life experience, and of unquestionable inspiration.

“Some, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and enlisted personally for this issue, others I’ve admired from afar for their commitment to a cause, their fearlessness in breaking barriers, or what they represent simply by being. These are our forces for change.”

Harry and Meghan will reveal on Monday, 5 August, which 15 accounts they have chosen to follow based on the input in the comments.
