Duchess of Sussex expecting her first child

Kensington Palace has just announced that the Duchess of Sussex is expecting her and the Duke of Sussex’s first child. The couple is delighted with the news. The baby is expected in the spring of 2019.

Kensington Palace said this morning, “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.

“Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”

The Duchess, who is currently with the Duke of Sussex in Australia for their autumn tour, has had her 12 week scan. Kensington Palace has said that Her Royal Highness is in good health.

The new child will be seventh in line to the throne after his or her grandfather, Prince Charles; uncle, the Duke of Cambridge; cousins, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis; and father, the Duke of Sussex.

This will be Her Majesty The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh’s seventh great-grandchild and the Prince of Wales’s fourth grandchild.

The Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, Prince of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge personally congratulated the couple at Princess Eugenie’s wedding on Friday, 12 October.

Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, is said to also be very happy with the news of her first grandchild. Doria issued a statement through Kensington Palace stating that she is “very happy at this lovely news and is looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild.”

Kensington Palace has declined to comment if Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle has been told.

Kensington Palace has said that the Duchess of Sussex will still travel to Fiji and Tonga during their autumn tour even with the warnings still in effect for the Zika virus in those countries. The couple has taken medical advice regarding the Zika risk in those countries.

The Duke and Duchess married at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle on 19 May 2018.
