
We’ve seen hundreds of photos of members of the Royal Family, and sometimes, we see them hanging out with other famous faces. Royal Central is taking a look at royals and what celebrities they consider friends.
The Duchess of Sussex and Priyanka Chopra-Jonas
[getty src=”960044182″ width=”594″ height=”396″ tld=”com”]Priyanka and the Duchess first became friends in early 2016 at an event all about women, the annual ELLE Women in Television dinner. The two have been spotted out together on several occasions including at a performance of the hit Broadway musical Hamilton. Chopra-Jonas was also seen at the Duchess’s 2018 wedding to Prince Harry.
The Duke of Sussex and Jon Bon Jovi
[getty src=”1209321956″ width=”594″ height=”436″ tld=”com”]In February 2020, The Duke of Sussex teamed up with rock star Jon Bon Jovi who recorded a special single with the Invictus Games Choir at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios. Bon Jovi told Chris Evans on the Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show with Sky that the song Unbroken was written for an American documentary about veterans with PTSD. The singer went on to add that he had reached out to the Duke about the song before its release.
“I had sent [Prince Harry] a letter back in August with the song and the lyrics before it came out in America. And I said it would be a great gift from me to the Invictus Games. And a long story short… He said yes and stuck to it. So we’re doing it.”
[getty src=”452207347″ width=”594″ height=”378″ tld=”com”]Bon Jovi has also been seen performing his hit song, “Livin’ on a Prayer “with Taylor Swift and the Duke of Cambridge at the Centrepoint Gala Dinner at Kensington Palace in November 2013.
The Duchess of Sussex and Serena Williams
[getty src=”466372063″ width=”594″ height=”458″ tld=”com”]Tennis star Serena William has been noted as one of the Duchess’s “closest friends.” The two met at the Super Bowl in Miami in 2010 and have remained friends since. Williams was in attendance at Meghan’s wedding and even helped to organise her New York baby shower.
The Duchess has often been seen at Wimbledon supporting her friend.
The Duke of Cambridge and David Beckham
[getty src=”450339088″ width=”594″ height=”384″ tld=”com”]It’s thought the Duke and David Beckham first became friends when campaigning for London to hold the World Cup back in 2012. Since then, the two have been seen at several charity events over the years. Beckham and his wife, Victoria, were in attendance at the Duke’s 2011 wedding to Catherine Middleton.
The Prince of Wales and Geri Halliwell
[getty src=”1095059680″ width=”594″ height=”450″ tld=”com”]The Spice Girls star considers the Prince of Wales an honorary member of the girl group. After spending a few months talking with the Prince, Halliwell said, “I feel like Prince Charles, His Royal Highness, is part of the landscape of the Spice Girls journey. We consider him a Spice Boy. He was there from the beginning, and to see him just grow and shine, our future King, I think it’s brilliant what he does.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and George and Amal Clooney
[getty src=”960036728″ width=”594″ height=”378″ tld=”com”]In Finding Freedom, it’s claimed the Clooneys hosted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on at least two occasions at their British home in Sonning, Oxfordshire. The Clooneys attended the Duke and Duchess’s 2018 wedding.
The Prince of Wales and Cheryl

The two have become well acquainted as Cheryl has worked with the Prince’s Trust for a number of years. She was in attendance at the Prince’s 70th birthday party in 2018.
The British Royal Family and Sir Elton John
[getty src=”113271151″ width=”594″ height=”410″ tld=”com”]Sir Elton John has been a family friend of the British Royal Family for a number of years. His relationship is said to have first began in the ’70s when Princess Margaret invited him for dinner at Kensington Palace. Living close to Windsor Castle, his royal encounters became more frequent.
John was particularly close with Diana, Princess of Wales. The pair met at the same party to which John says he immediately felt a kinship.
“She was blessed with an incredible social ease, an ability to talk to anybody, to make herself seem ordinary.” At Diana’s 1997 funeral, John sang a new version of “Candle in the Wind” with reworked lyrics by his writing partner Bernie Taupin.
In modern times, John has attended both the Duke of Cambridge and the Duke of Sussex’s weddings. He has also openly defended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after they were publicly criticised for using a private plane.
The Duke of Cambridge and Eddie Redmayne
[getty src=”479357050″ width=”594″ height=”422″ tld=”com”]Eddie Redmayne was once a classmate of the Duke of Cambridge at Eton College. Redmayne says the two played rugby together, and he felt a bit sorry for Prince William as other players always wanted to tackle him.
“I always felt a bit sorry for him because basically any school you played, all they wanted to do was tackle Prince William in order to say, ‘I tackled Prince William.’ So if you were standing next to Prince William, like I was, it was actually quite easy and quite fun.”
The Duchess of Cambridge and Roger Federer

He does not talk about his royal friendship often, but he said Prince George was a “sweet boy” when he played a tennis game with the young royal at the Cambridge’s home in Norfolk. Federer and his wife, Mirka, are also close to Kate’s sister, Pippa. The couple was invited to Pippa’s wedding in 2017.
Diana, Princess of Wales and Sir Richard Branson

The Duchess of Cambridge and Reese Witherspoon
[getty src=”118825149″ width=”594″ height=”452″ tld=”com”]The pair met during the Cambridge’s royal tour of Canada and North America in 2011. After the meeting, it’s said the two have become close and Kate sent Reese a present when her son, Tennessee, was born in 2012.
Diana, Princess of Wales and Tom Hanks
[getty src=”52101927″ width=”594″ height=”429″ tld=”com”]Diana, Princess of Wales met Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson on several occasions including at a preview of Apollo 13 in London in 1995. Hanks attended the late royal’s funeral just a few years later in 1997.
The Duke of Sussex and Rihanna
[getty src=”626985394″ width=”594″ height=”396″ tld=”com”]Rihanna and the Duke of Sussex met during his tour of the Caribbean in 2016. The two spoke at length during their photo op and took HIV tests live on camera with one another. Later on, they attended a concert together.
The Prince of Wales and Dame Emma Thompson
[getty src=”528253036″ width=”594″ height=”460″ tld=”com”]Emma Thompson has had her fair share of encounters with the Royal Family. Following his divorce from Diana, Thompson used to write letters to the Prince.
On the day of her damehood, Thompson shared an innocent joking kiss with the Duke of Cambridge, a request that he denied. The actress later revealing, “I love Prince William. I’ve known him since he was little, and we just sniggered at each other. I said, ‘I can’t kiss you, can I?’ And he said, ‘No don’t!’”
