Up to 10 million people could join UK wide ‘thank you’ to The Queen

Up to ten million people are expected to join a huge ‘thank you’ taking place on the final day of the Platinum Jubilee weekend.

Organisers of national ‘Thank You Day’ have planned the 2022 event to co-incide with the last afternoon of celebrations for the 70th anniversary of The Queen’s reign in June 2022. And they’re hoping that millions will turn out and make it a record breaking event.

It’s being held alongside the Big Jubilee Lunch on June 5th 2022, the last day of the extra long bank holiday weekend marking the Platinum Jubilee. Millions are expected to join street parties and tea parties in their local area to celebrate. If the total tops ten million, it will become the UK’s biggest ever nationwide party.

The first national ‘Thank You Day’ was held in the UK in 2021 as a chance for communities to come together and show their appreciation for support during the pandemic. There was a special focus on thanking the NHS and key workers. Now a second day is planned to say thanks to people in local communities as well as appreciation for The Queen as she marks seven decades of rule.

Stars including Prue Leith, Gareth Southgate and Gary Lineker are all backing the event. Actor Ross Kemp is also supporting the party. He told BBC Breakfast that ””We want as many people as possible to get involved. And if we make it over 10 million, then that is a national record..”

And speaking of The Queen, the actor added ”It’s history, she is our history. So we’re celebrating that.”

He also took a swipe at the government, telling several media outlets that ””You can bring wine and cheese if you wish, but this is not a business meeting, this is a party.”

The Queen marks the 70th anniversary of her reign on February 6th 2022. It is expected that she will spend the day quietly, at Sandringham, as it also marks the anniversary of the death of her beloved father, King George VI. The main Jubilee celebrations take place between June 2nd and June 5th 2022 with planned events including a mass beacon lighting, a Platinum Jubilee Pageant and a huge concert at Buckingham Palace.
