The Queen to host Angela Merkel at Windsor Castle later this week

Buckingham Palace has announced that The Queen will receive in Audience the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel.

Her Majesty will welcome Mrs Merkel to Windsor Castle on Friday afternoon.

The German leader is visiting the United Kingdom to engage in talks with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

The two leaders are due to talk about post-Brexit arrangements as well as their ongoing response to the global health emergency.

After her meeting with Mr Johnson, Mrs Merkel will be received by The Queen at Windsor.

This will likely be Mrs Merkel’s final meeting with The Queen in her role as Chancellor of Germany.

After 16 years in charge, the 66-year-old will be standing down from office later this year.

Earlier in June, Mrs Merkel and other world leaders met The Queen during the G7 Summit in Cornwall.

Her Majesty and senior members of her family travelled down to south west England for part of the meeting.

The 95-year-old monarch also separately hosted US President Joe Biden at Windsor Castle for afternoon tea.
