Queen Elizabeth II

The Queen responds to frustrated American’s letter of request

Her Majesty The Queen is used to receiving thousands of letters each year with many that are often requests for her to attend an official opening, inviting her to tea or even be a part of a young child’s birthday party. Recently though, The Queen received one such letter from across the pond from a frustrated American, kindly asking Her Majesty to take the USA back after becoming sick and tired of the Republican presidential candidates.

The irked American wrote to The Queen at Buckingham Palace asking her to take back the USA after growing tired and feeling disillusioned by the candidates in the upcoming presidential election. Showing that Buckingham Palace and indeed The Queen have a great sense of humour, the annoyed American received a reply which read, “I have been asked to write in response to your recent letter to The Queen in which you express your views about the American government. Whilst your views have been noted, you will appreciate, I am sure, that there can be no question of The Queen intervening in the affairs of another Sovereign state.”

America gained independence from Britain in July 1776 when the Continental Congress voted to approve a Virginia motion calling for separation from Britain. On July 4th 1776, the declaration was formally adopted by 12 colonies and New York, the 13th colony, approved it on July 19th. The declaration was eventually signed on August 2nd 1776. Independence Day is celebrated every year in the USA on the 4th July and is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence over 200 years ago.

The letter from the frustrated American was initially posted on the Reddit website by a user who noted that it was his friend who had sent it. The post read, “Frustrated by the current field of presidential candidates (particularly on the GOP side), my Anglophile friend wrote a letter to The Queen, asking her to take the US back. To our shock, they actually dignified him with a response.”

The letter from America comes just months after Her Majesty received a letter from a six year old girl, inviting The Queen to her birthday party. The response from Buckingham Palace this time read, “The Queen greatly appreciated the thought and hopes you have a lovely time.”
