Queen Elizabeth II

The Queen is told she was ”quite the hit” during audience with Australian Prime Minister

Queen Elizabeth II met with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, discussing her appearance at the G7 Summit last week.

“You were quite the hit. Everyone was talking about you at dinner the next night,” the Prime Minister told her, revealing a conversation at a G7 Summit dinner in a clip released to the media.

“Oh Lord. Were they really?” The Queen asked, to which the Prime Minister replied, “They were. They were thrilled to see you.”

The Queen told Prime Minister Morrison, upon meeting him, that it was “very nice to see you – in person this time.”

Prime Minister Morrison was in the UK for the G7 Summit, having been invited to participate as a guest nation. He later tweeted from his official Twitter account: “Honoured to once again have an audience with Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II before my departure from London this afternoon. We had a good conversation, and I was able to pass on in person Australia’s condolences on the recent loss of Prince Philip.”

The G7 is a political group formed of a ‘group of seven’ nations that include Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States. Each year, the country holding the presidency over the G7 hosts a summit in their country, which is attended by the heads of government for each country.

Australia attended as a guest nation, alongside South Korea and South Africa. India was present via video link, as the health crisis in the country has been too grave for the Prime Minister to travel. Germany will host next year’s G7 Summit.

The Queen has held audiences throughout the pandemic at her residence in Windsor Castle, though the majority of them have been virtual. Her meeting with Prime Minister Morrison is one of the rare in-person audiences she’s held since the global health crisis began.

The Royal Family website lists heads of state she’s met with throughout the pandemic, including New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
