The Queen drops off the Sunday Times Rich List for the first time since its inception

For the first time since its inception in 1989, Her Majesty The Queen has fallen off of the top end of the Sunday Times Rich List. At its inception, The Queen was top of the list but when the 2015 Sunday Times Rich List was released, Her Majesty had dropped to 302.

Its definitely not all bad news for The Queen though as her income has actually risen by £10 million partly because of the Sovereign Grant and also because her investment portfolio is estimated to have grown to £110 million. The Rich

List also doesn’t take in to account the Royal Collection, The Queen’s priceless collection of artworks that includes works by Monet, Landseer, Durer and Rembrandt, which is worth millions of pounds in its own right.

The Royal Collection is held in trust by The Queen for her successors and for the nation and is not owned by her privately. The Royal Collection receives no government grant and is administered by the Royal Collection Trust, a charity set up by The Queen in 1993 under the chairmanship of The Prince of Wales.

The 2015 Sunday Times Rich List sees the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin push The Queen out of the list of the top 300 wealthy for the first time since the records began. This years list also shows an increase of British billionaires, rising from 104 in 2014 to 117 in 2015. The Queen’s position at 302 is equal to that of John Duffield and family and Clinton, Spencer and John McCarthy. The 2014 Rich List saw Her Majesty placed at 285.

The Rich List has been published in the Sunday Times every year since 1989 and lists the top 1000 wealthiest people or families in the United Kingdom. The list is updated every April and is published as a magazine supplement by the Sunday Times. 2015’s wealthiest person was Len Blavatnik, a Ukraine born businessman who made his fortune in music and oil.

She may be pushed out of the Rich List’s top 300, but The Queen wont let that phase her this week. She is about to become a great-grandmother once again as the arrival of William and Kate’s second baby draws nearer and nearer.
