<![CDATA[On Monday, the Queen celebrated 61 years since her coronation but she didn't throw a party or make a fuss of the occasion. Instead, she modestly enjoyed a horse ride around Great Windsor Park on her pony, Carltonlima Emma.
The 88-year-old monarch was seen wearing jodhpurs, an overcoat and a headscarf as she rode on her black pony alongside her head groom, Terry Prendry.
The Queen finds it more difficult to ride horses these days after she had two knee operations in 2003. To ensure Her Majesty does not miss out on the pleasure of riding, she now mostly rides ponies.
The monarch has a passion for equestrianism and enjoys every aspect of horses. She is also one of the world’s most famous racehorse owners having won prestigious races such as the Ascot Gold Cup as well as every other major race in the UK (except the Epsom Derby and Grand National).
The Queen is also a keen horse breeder and still breeds horses today. Her Majesty’s horses are foaled at the Royal Stud in Sandringham and are then trained at Hampshire before being passed on to Her Majesty’s trainers for racing. She is currently patron of the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association.
