The Duke and Duchess of Sussex join Her Majesty at the Queen’s Young Leaders Awards

Back from his trip to Lesotho, Prince Harry accompanied his wife, the Duchess of Sussex and grandmother, Queen Elizabeth to the Queen’s Young Leaders Awards held at Buckingham Palace.

The Duchess wore Prada and sat front row with Her Majesty as they listened to Prince Harry’s speech in his role as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador.

“You are the future leaders who will need to pick up the baton on issues such as climate change, food security, equality and access to education,” the Duke said to the crowd of eager young faces.

“You are the hope and optimism the world needs and we will all do everything that we can to support you in it.”

The Duke also spoke about his role as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador, saying he is “committed to supporting the legacy of The Queen’s Young Leaders and the 1.4 billion Commonwealth youth.”

He teased that the youth leaders are “stuck” with him and that he and his “wife Meghan” are looking forward to “convening young people from around The Commonwealth to hear your ideas, work with you to build platforms for you to collaborate and form partnerships.”

Still in the honeymoon phase, his comments calling Meghan his “wife” garnered giggles from the Duchess, blushing at the term.

The Queen handed out the awards to the young leaders in front of the 200 or so guests that included the likes of David Beckham.

Four years ago, Princes William and Harry came up with the idea for the awards as a way to recognise the positive work being done by youth in the commonwealth. This is the last year the awards will take place, although Harry assured the group that “the legacy of the programme will no doubt carry on for generations to come.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also met with youth leaders from New Zealand, Tonga, and Australia ahead of their tour in the Autumn.
