The Church of England has highlighted readings and prayers for services taking place on February 6th 2022, the 70th anniversary of The Queen’s accession to the throne.
On its website, the Church has published authorised liturgical material for use this coming Sunday as Elizabeth II marks her Platinum Jubilee.
Among the readings suggested are a passage from the Book of Joshua and another from the Book of Proverbs which begins with the line ”Does not wisdom call, and does not understanding raise her voice?”
There are also suggested collects including one which says ”Vouchsafe so to bless thy Servant our Queen, that under her this nation may be wisely governed,.”
In an introduction to the special prayers and readings, official guidance says that the Church of England prays regularly for The Queen as well as ”her work and her needs” as she is not only Head of State but also Supreme Governor of the Church of England. And it says that marking the anniversary of her Accession through prayer is particularly important on the 70th anniversary of the start of her reign.
The Queen has often spoken of her deep faith and the comfort and support she gets from it.
There is a service at St. Mary Magdalene church on the morning of February 6th 2022 which The Queen could attend as she is now staying at Sandringham where she will mark the 70th anniversary of her accession. Her beloved father, King George VI, died at Sandringham in the early hours of February 6th 1952. The Queen prefers to spend the anniversary of his death at the Norfolk estate.
