Queen Elizabeth II

82 per cent of people feel more reassured following The Queen’s Address

According to a poll conducted by Royal Central, 82 per cent of people feel more reassured following The Queen’s Address to the Commonwealth.

660 people responded to the question ‘How do you feel this evening (Sunday) following The Queen’s Address to the Commonwealth?’ on Twitter.

Of those respondents, 82 per cent of people said they feel more reassured following the monarch’s speech, with just 1.2 per cent feeling less reassured.

16.8 per cent of people said that they feel indifferent following the broadcast.

Around 24 million people tuned in to watch The Queen’s Address to the Commonwealth in the UK on Sunday evening.

The true figure of those who watched Her Majesty’s speech will be much higher though, as viewing figures do not take in to account those watching online or overseas.

The Queen’s speech was only the fifth time the monarch has given an address to the nation in her 68-year reign.

Speaking to people living all across the globe, Her Majesty said that she recognises we have a long way to go in battling the pandemic, but that we will see better days.

The 93-year-old monarch said: “While we have faced challenges before, this one is different.

This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal. We will succeed – and that success will belong to every one of us.

We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.

In her extremely rare televised address, Her Majesty also praised frontline healthcare staff and other essential workers.

Of those key workers, The Queen said: “I am sure the nation will join me in assuring you that what you do is appreciated and every hour of your hard work brings us closer to a return to more normal times.
