Queen Camilla ”didn’t want” Buckingham Palace to share The King’s cancer diagnosis to protect him

Queen Camilla didn’t want The King to reveal he had cancer as she feared too much public scrutiny of his health might harm his recovery.

As The King shared that he would be able to reduce his cancer treatments in the coming year, it was reported that The Queen had originally advised against her husband sharing his diagnosis as she wanted to protect him.

The Sunday Times has revealed that Queen Camilla wanted the diagnosis to remain private so that King Charles could be treated quietly.

However, the paper continues that ”both of them now unequivocally think that being so open has been hugely positive.”

Just days ago, King Charles spoke to the nation to confirm that his doctors have advised that he can scale back his treatments, nearly two years after he was diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer.

The King credited early detection for the positive news and urged everyone to get themselves checked whenever possible.

His speech came during Channel 4’s evening of programmes for Stand Up To Cancer – The King is the charity’s patron.

Stand Up To Cancer has now revealed that in the 24 hours after the speech, over 100, 000 people accessed its webpage offering advice on getting checks.

It follows a similar response in January 2024 after King Charles was treated for an enlarged prostate. When Buckingham Palace announced the news, the NHS webpage on the condition saw 11 times the usual number of visitors.

Buckingham Palace hasn’t revealed what kind of cancer The King is being treated for although it did say it wasn’t prostate cancer.

King Charles’ positive health news comes after his daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales, confirmed earlier this year that she was in remission from cancer after undergoing months of preventative chemotherapy after cancer was found during tests after major abdominal surgery for another condition.

Just hours after The King’s speech, Kate visited the Ever After Garden in Chelsea where people can dedicate roses to loved ones and remember those affected by cancer. The Princess dedicated her own rose in the garden which has raised over £1.6 million since its inception in 2019.
