Queen Camilla follows in footsteps of Queen Mary and The Queen Mother

In a tradition that dates back over 100 years, The Queen has been given a special bouquet as the Scottish Coronation approaches.

The Worshipful Company of Gardeners presented Queen Camilla with a Coronation posy the day before the historic ceremony in Edinburgh that will see King Charles swear promises to the people of Scotland as the country’s Honours are brought to him.

The tradition goes back to the very first consort of the House of Windsor. In 1911, Queen Mary was given a bouquet as she and King George V arrived in Edinburgh for their Scottish Coronation.

Every queen since has been given flowers by the Worshipful Company of Gardeners to mark the event.

Her Majesty was presented with a bouquet of purple and pink blooms at the Palace of Holyroodhouse on the eve of the National Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication which will see the oldest Crown Jewels in the UK symbolically handed to King Charles.

Soon afterwards, Queen Camilla and The King hosted a garden party for 8,000 people at Holyroodhouse. The Princess Royal also attended the event which celebrated people from across Scotland.

The King had earlier held audiences at the Palace with the First Minister of Scotland, Humza Yousaf, and Presiding Officer, Alison Johnstone

The Honours of Scotland are presented to King Charles III on July 5th 2023.
