Priyanka Chopra has addressed rumours regarding a rift in her friendship with the Duchess of Sussex on US television.
The two Hollywood actresses became best friends after meeting at an Elle US magazine event celebrating women in TV. Hitting it off straight away, Meghan, then a star of TV drama Suits, told India West “And you know when you meet someone, and you just ‘click’ … It was just an easy, natural progression.”
They regularly shared snaps of themselves together from nights out and holidays to the beach on their Instagram accounts.
But after Meghan didn’t attend Priyanka’s December 2018 wedding, to singer Nick Jonas, rumours started that the two were on the outs.
These intensified after Priyanka missed Meghan’s star-studded New York baby shower in February, while mutual friends such as Amal Clooney, Abigail Spencer and Serena Williams attended.
Page Six claimed an anonymous source told them that Priyanka missed the shower due to being ticked off after the Duchess of Sussex skipped her wedding.
“Priyanka is a huge international star with a tremendous social media following. She is probably more famous worldwide than Meghan is. She feels Meghan didn’t respect her, and didn’t respect their friendship” the source claimed.
Appearing on Thursday, on the Andy Cohen show, Watch What Happens Live, the Quantico actress took a phone call from a fan who asked, “Are the rumours true that you were upset that Meghan Markle skipped your wedding to Nick Jonas?”
Priyanka couldn’t help herself to laugh at the absurdity before answering “Oh my God, no, it’s not true.”
Earlier this week, another source also helped quash rumours of feud, hinting that the Duchess of Sussex relies on her friend more then ever as she adjusts to life as a royal.
“Priyanka and Meghan are still very close friends and they talk frequently,” the source told E! Online.
“Meghan confides in Priyanka about the adjustments she has to make with being a royal.”
