The Princess of Wales is all about patterns this autumn and I love it

The Princess of Wales has proven that pattern is the go-to look for autumn, with a trio of looks for inspiration as the weather turns chillier.

As the Princess of Wales visited Sudbury Silk Mills and Marina Mill to learn about British craftsmanship and how family-run businesses are helping protect these crafts, she chose a key look for this season.

Kate wore the Earl Jacket, a slim structured blazer, and the School Boy trousers, a straight leg design, from London-based fashion house Bella Freud.

More than appropriately, she chose the Prince of Wales check for the suit, a check that has been associated with the title since the future King Edward VII chose to wear it.

Earlier in the week, the Prince and Princess of Wales visited the Women’s Institute in Sunnningdale, to mark the third anniversary of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s passing.

The Princess debuted a new Alessandra Rich midi-dress, a wide-collared dress with puffed sleeves in a black, white, and grey check design.

Both outfits also followed rules on royal mourning. Buckingham Palace announced that the Royal Family would be in official mourning following the death of the Duchess of Kent on September 4 2025.

Since then, members of the family have been seen in mourning shades with William and Kate both choosing black for several engagements. The Princess of Wales wore a black trouser suit for her first appearance after the death of the Duchess was announced and has kept to sombre colours, including grey, since.

Before the death of the Duchess of Kent, Kate had chosen autumnal colours in slightly brighter shades. For a visit at the very start of September, Kate wore a herringbone blazer from Ralph Lauren when she visited the Natural History Museum in South Kensington with William.  The rugged, herringbone jacket was the perfect choice for exploring the museum’s new ponds.
