England has clinched a spot in the Euro Cup final after a nail-biting game against the Netherlands where the Three Lions won 2-1. Although he was not able to be at the game due to work engagements in the United Kingdom, The Prince of Wales has shared his excitement for the team.
Prince William was straight on to his official social media after the final whistle, congratulating the team who clinched the win thanks to a last minute wonder goal from Ollie Watkins who also plays for the prince’s favourite team, Aston Villa. The heir to the throne said “What a beauty, Ollie! Congratulations England!”.
The Prince has attended other Euro Cup matches this year, including England’s matches against Denmark and Switzerland. It has not been confirmed whether he will be attending the Euro Cup Final on Sunday, 14 July when England will face Spain. However, there is every expectation that he will and that a member of the Spanish Royal Family will also be in Berlin to cheer on their team.
The King has also shared his well-wishes after the big game in an official statement. His Majesty said ”My wife and I join all our family in wishing you the warmest congratulations on reaching the final of the U.E.F.A. European Championship – and in sending our very best wishes for Sunday’s match.
If I may encourage you to secure victory before the need for any last minute wonder-goals or another penalties drama, I am sure the stresses on the nation’s collective heart rate and blood pressure would be greatly alleviated!
Good luck, England.”
It is safe to say the Royal Family will have their eyes on the match this Sunday.
