Prince William is now heir to the throne

Prince William is now first in line to the throne. He became heir on the accession of his father, His Majesty The King.

The death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8th 2022, saw the throne pass to her elder son who is now King Charles III. His own first born son, William, is now heir.

The Prince William has already become the Duke of Cornwall, the traditional title of the heir to the English throne. He becomes the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland.

It is up to The King whether his heir becomes the Prince of Wales. That decision will be made at a later date.

The Prince William, Duke of Cornwall and Cambridge was born on June 21st 1982 in London. He married Catherine Middleton, now Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge, in April 2011 and the couple has three children.

Their elder son, Prince George of Cornwall, is now second in line to the throne.
