The Duke of Edinburgh undergoes heart surgery

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh has undergone an operation on his heart. Buckingham Palace say the procedure was a success and Prince Philip is now resting and recovering.

The 99 year old Duke underwent the procedure for a pre-existing condition at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London where he had been transferred at the weekend.

The Palace issued a short statement, confirming that: “The Duke of Edinburgh yesterday underwent a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. His Royal Highness will remain in hospital for treatment, rest and recuperation for a number of days.”

Prince Philip was taken to King Edward VII’s Hospital in London February 16th 2021 where he was treated for an infection before being moved to Barts, a centre of excellence for cardiac care.
