Prince Philip thanks wellwishers after hospital stay

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

The Duke of Edinburgh has expressed his gratitude for the support and get well soon messages sent to him as he spent four nights in hospital in the run up to Christmas. As Prince Philip arrived back at Sandringham, just in time for Christmas, an official statement said he ”would like to thank everyone who sent their good wishes”.

The Duke, who is 98, was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London last Friday where he was treated for what Buckingham Palace described as a ”pre-existing condition”. He left just after 8.45 on Christmas Eve morning when he was seen walking to his car.

Soon afterwards, officials issued a statement confirming that Prince Philip had left hospital and was now back at Sandringham where the Royal Family is gathering for their Christmas celebrations. The helicopter carrying him home was spotted landing at the Norfolk estate.

The Queen is already at Sandringham to welcome her husband home.
