This evening, Thursday 9 June, The Duke of Edinburgh will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of The Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Awards.
The “Diamonds Are Forever” themed fundraising event comes one day before Prince Philip celebrates his 95th birthday.
The Duke of Edinburgh is attending the event being held at Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire along with many of the 007 stars including Dame Judi Dench (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace), Sir Rodger Moore (For Your Eyes Only, The Spy Who Loved Me) and Naomie Harris (Skyfall, Spectre) for the James Bond-themed charity gala.
The evening is being hosted by English comedian, actor, author, television personality David Walliams and will see other current and past crew from the movie series such as producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson.
The entertainment programme for the night is arranged by British film composer David Arnold who worked on five of the 26 James Bond films.
Stoke Park in Buckinghamshire, which is the backdrop the gala, was also featured in the films Goldfinger and Tomorrow Never Dies
Prince Philip’s youngest son, The Earl of Wessex is also attending along with his wife, Sophie, The Countess of Wessex to celebrate the charity which was started in 1956.
The money raised this evening will help assist the charity with their goal of engaging two million more young people by the year 2020.
Described on The Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards webpage as “a process of personal and social development…Youth learn from the new experiences they have and discover hidden capabilities and talents.”
In her youth, The Duchess of Cambridge also took part in the award scheme which ultimately helped prepare her for her trip to Chile during her gap year.
The DofE Award operates in over 140 countries and territories and is the world’s leading youth achievement award which works with more than 300,000 young people in the UK each year.
