King Charles III

Prince Charles and Duchess of Cornwall to visit Kingdom of Kerry next month

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are set to travel to Ireland next month where they will visit the Lakes of Killarney and Cork.

This will be Prince Charles’s first visit to the area and he will be the first Royal to grace The Kingdom of Kerry since 1861 when Queen Victoria visited.

Naval headquarters in Haulbowline, will also receive a visit from the Prince of Wales.

Due to its control of the Atlantic trade route between North America and Europe, this is one of the most important bases operated by the Royal Navy.

Here Prince Charles will be briefed on the rescue mission aiming to save refugees and migrants in the Mediterranean, Operation Sophia, and be given a tour of a patrol ship.

The Prince of Wales is said to have requested the naval visit himself.

It will enable him to retrace his illustrious ancestors in Cork and Kerry, giving him an insight in to the place where HMS Dreadnought, championed by one of his ancestors, underwent gunnery trials.

And It would appear that the whole visit has sparked a keen interest in Prince Charles to learn more about his past, with him requesting to spend time at many of the sites because of their link to his ancestry.

His trip will also focus on various renewable energy projects, with the Prince of Wales set to take part on a tour of the National Maritime College of Ireland where he will be briefed on issues of this kind.

During his stay in The Kingdom not only will Prince Charles focus on conservation issues, he will also be given private tours of some of the country’s most notable tourist landmarks including Muckross, the Gap of Dunloe and the Ring of Kerry.

Prince Charles and Camilla’s trip to Ireland will begin on June 14th and last for three days.

The garda special protection unit have been liaising closely with Britain’s royal security detail to ensure there is maximum security during the visit and everything runs smoothly.
