King Charles is back to work following brief hospital stay

The King is back in action with an investiture ceremony following a brief stay in hospital following side effects from cancer treatment.

King Charles looked to be in good spirits as April got under way when he hosted an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle. People from several different fields including horticulture, the performing arts, and athletics were honoured at the ceremony.

Days earlier, he had been forced to cancel several engagements after experiencing side effects from cancer treatment that led his doctors to keep him in hospital for several hours for observation. King Charles was released from medical care quickly and spent the weekend at Highgrove with Queen Camilla where he is understood to have relaxed in the spring sunshine and enjoyed gardening.

At this first appearance since the brief hospital stay, His Majesty was able to present two leading figures the Royal Ballet and Royal Opera, with their honours on Tuesday. The King is a long standing supporter of both organisations.

Choreographer Wayne McGregor was knighted; he has worked with the Royal Ballet for nearly two decades, choreographing several pieces for them. He said “I am very honoured to be offered a knighthood and grateful to all of the incredible people who have nurtured me for over 33 years in the art form I love – dance…Recognising that the arts matter, this honour reminds us that every young person given access to culture and creative expression has the opportunity to fly.”

Marianela Núñez, a principal dancer with the Royal Ballet, was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

TV star and expert gardener, Alan Titchmarsh, was made a CBE for his services to horticulture and charity.

Double world-heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson was made MBE; Johnson-Thompson won a silver medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
