King Charles III

King Charles III with a fashion first as he attends Braemar Games

The King has attended the Braemar Gathering as his stay at Balmoral continues.

And His Majesty had a fashion first for the traditional games as he chose a kilt in the brand new Charles III tartan for the event.

The tartan, which features blue, red and grey/ green, is modelled on the famous Balmoral pattern which was created in 1850 and developed by Prince Albert after he bought the Scottish residence.

The Charles III tartan is now registered with the Scottish Register of Tartans.

King Charles was accompanied by Queen Camilla and the Princess Royal for the trip to the Braemar Gathering.

The royals watched traditional events including tossing the caber and tug of war as well as displays of Highland dancing.

The Royal Family has attended the Gathering for decades and Queen Elizabeth II was particularly fond of the event.

King Charles and Queen Camilla took up residence at Balmoral in August. They are expected to be there on September 8th 2023, the first anniversary of His Majesty’s accession. Charles III took the throne on the death of his mother, Elizabeth II. Her Late Majesty passed away at Balmoral.
