King Charles unleashes his inner Shania Twain as the Royal Family throw their support behind England for the Euros

King Charles III is seen smiling on a spring day

The King was the first to show his support for the England women’s football team ahead of the final of the 2025 Euros and he chose a striking phrase to get the party started.

As the guards at Buckingham Palace struck up a song in support of the Lionesses, the message that came with it was unmissable.

The social media accounts of the Royal Family called out to the team with the phrase ”Let’s Go, Girls!”, adding a Shania style twist to the support. It’s not known whether King Charles or Queen Camilla is a fan of the song that famously uses that as an opening line or whether the two went the whole Twain way and bought the album of the same name.

However, the music was much more suited to the situation. The band outside the Palace gave a rousing chorus of ‘It’s Coming Home’, the now legendary football song first performed by the Lightening Seeds with Frank Skinner and David Baddiel back in 1996. Since then, it’s become an anthem for England in all kinds of international tournaments and the attempt by the Lionesses to defend their Euros title in Switzerland was no exception.

The message from the Royal Family continued ”Wishing the very best of luck to the @Lionesses in the Women’s Euro Final this evening.”

The Prince of Wales travelled to Switzerland for the match – Prince William is President of the English Football Association.

William was accompanied by Princess Charlotte. The ten year old is an avid football fan and looked thrilled to be at her dad’s side as they arrived in Basel for the crunch game.

The first and third in line to the throne posed for a photo, hugging in front of the UEFA sign ahead of the match.

They were set to join two other royals in the VIP box for the match.

England are up against Spain in the game and the heir to the Spanish throne, Princess Leonor, travelled to Basel to cheer on her country’s side which were starting the final as favourites for the title.

Leonor,19, has just returned from six months at sea where she was completing her naval training.

The princess is known to be a sports fan but not nearly as keen on football as her younger sister, Infanta Sofia. The eighteen year old is passionate about the game and has been to the Women’s World Cup final in 2023 and the Men’s Euros Final in 2024. On both occasions, she watched her national side win – both times by beating England.
