King Charles III greets huge crowds outside Buckingham Palace on his return to London

There were loud cries of ‘God Save The King’ and outbreaks of the national anthem as His Majesty King Charles III met huge crowds waiting for him as he returned to Buckingham Palace.

The King and the Queen Consort got straight out of their car on arrival at the Palace to meet some of the tens of thousands gathered at the gates.

His Majesty spent several minutes greeting wellwishers, many of them offering condolences to the King on the loss of Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Camilla also greeted the crowds, receiving sympathies from many of them.

The King and Queen then looked at many of the floral tributes left in memory of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

The crowds had already cheered the couple as they drove into central London, having arrived by plane from Aberdeen. They had been at Balmoral with Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on September 8th 2022 when she passed away. They left the Castle earlier today to return to London.

His Majesty will now record an address to the nation which will be broadcast at 6pm tonight.

On September 10th 2022, at 10am, his official proclamation as King takes place at St. James’ Palace.
