William and Kate targeted by vile fakers

The Prince and Princess of Wales have been targeted by online scammers, creating false images which are purported to depict them.

The images, which we are not publishing, have been created using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

One of the pictures shows the ‘Princess’ crying whilst Prince William delivers a speech.

In another, the couple embrace each other whilst wearing their full finery – including a tiara.

The pictures have gone viral on Facebook, with the caption “A Moment That Brought The Élysée Palace To Absolute Silence”.

However, Prince William has not delivered a speech at the Élysée Palace – indeed, the State Visit earlier this month saw President Macron of France visit the UK.

With many people accepting the images as real, Full Fact – a fact checking service has stepped in.

Full Fact says: “These aren’t real pictures, and were likely created with artificial intelligence. They do not match genuine photographs from the event, and there are discrepancies with how both Royals appear in real life.”

They continued: “We found that the pictures being shared on Facebook, although they look realistic, also contain errors in the appearance of both royals compared to genuine images of the event. There are subtle differences in the princess’s inner ear and hairline, while her tiara and earrings appear quite different.”

Full Fact gave readers some advice when scrolling social media: “Before sharing images like this that you see on social media, first consider whether they come from a trustworthy and verifiable source, or if they could have been altered or created with AI.”
