In an effort to lessen their carbon footprint and promote sustainability, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has asked attendees of their BAFTA Film Awards to rewear an outfit they’ve worn in the past or to choose another sustainable option. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend the awards as the Duke is president of BAFTA. The commitment to sustainability is a great fit for the Duke who just weeks ago announced a new initiative of The Royal Foundation called The Earthshot Prize, which will recognise “visionaries” who are helping to solve “Earth’s greatest environmental problems”.
With the Duke’s work in sustainability and her expansive closet of gowns, it is likely we will see the Duchess repeat one of her gorgeous gowns. With that in mind, we’re going to look at some of the gorgeous gowns Catherine may choose to repeat.
There are two designers who have created most of the evening gowns in Catherine’s wardrobe, and they are both British which makes them both great choices for the BAFTA Film Awards. The first is Alexander McQueen. The creative director of Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton, created Catherine’s stunning wedding gown and has designed many of Catherine’s grandest looks.
One especially apt choice for Catherine would be her lilac Alexander McQueen gown. The gown was worn for the first and only time in July 2011 during William and Catherine’s tour of North America. Catherine wore it to a BAFTA dinner in Los Angeles. A rewear of this dress would be a great piece of fashion storytelling.
Another McQueen option is the strapless black velvet dress she wore in December 2011 to The Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards. It’s a simple and elegant look, but given the grandeur of the BAFTAs, it is likely Catherine would pair the dress with a statement necklace of some kind.

The British designer has created many of Catherine’s sparkling and glamorous gowns. One option Catherine could choose is the sparkly gold Jenny Packham gown Catherine wore to the Tusk Conservation Awards in 2013. This piece would also be a good piece of fashion storytelling. Not only did Catherine last wear it to an awards ceremony celebrating conservation, but the gold colour is also a good nod to the BAFTA trophies that will be handed out in the evening.

The gown is fairly unique for Catherine as it features a halter neck and a long slit in the back. The gown features a jewelled belt and jewels on the sleeve which give it some grandeur needed for an awards show.
