Edward and Sophie attend record breaking attempt at Big Jubilee Lunch

Continuing on with their very busy schedule for the Platinum Jubilee weekend, The Earl and Countess of Wessex were in Windsor to take part in a momentous Big Jubilee Lunch.

Edward and Sophie were at a community lunch on the Long Walk at Windsor Castle.

They joined over 3,000 people at almost 500 tables stretching 800 metres long on the walkway to take part in the Big Jubilee Lunch. Given that The Queen permanently lives at Windsor Castle now and the Wessexes live at Bagshot Park at Windsor, they were able to have their lunch with their neighbours.

The Wessexes arrived at the lunch around 2pm, and spent over an hour walking throughout the crowd and speaking with community members.

While many were sitting at the tables, those who weren’t lucky enough to win lottery tickets spread out their picnic blankets on the grounds around the official tables. There were close to 50,000 people in total for the event on the grounds of Windsor Castle.

When she was asked how The Queen was, Sophie said that she was well but also had not seen her yet today.

Local children performed a special Platinum Jubilee song for the Earl and Countess.

The Big Jubilee Lunch is a special version of the annual Big Lunch that happens every year. The Eden Project launched the Big Lunch project to bring communities together for a lunch in June, to share a meal and spend time together.

The Big Jubilee Lunch has over 18 million people registered to take part officially, with more taking part unofficially across the United Kingdom.

The Duchess of Cornwall is the Patron of the Big Lunch. Both Camilla and Charles attended a Big Jubilee Lunch at The Oval cricket ground in South London on Sunday afternoon before going to the Platinum Jubilee Pageant.
