The Earl and Countess of Wessex to visit Manchester to light a candle in memory of The Queen

The Earl & Countess of Wessex will visit Manchester on Thursday, 15th September, to view floral tributes left in the city to honour the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Prince Edward and Sophie will arrive in the city in the late morning and are firstly expected to view the civic Book of Condolence at Manchester’s Central Library.

Their Royal Highnesses will then view the many floral tributes which have been left in St Ann’s Square.

The couple will meet members of the local community who are volunteering at the site and managing the many floral tributes in memory of The Queen.

Before departing, Edward and Sophie will light a candle in memory of Her late Majesty who died last Thursday at Balmoral.

The Earl of Wessex walked behind his mother’s coffin on Wednesday as it was transferred from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Hall.

His Royal Highness walked alongside his three siblings, King Charles, Princess Anne and Prince Andrew.

Other royals to have taken part in the procession included the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Sussex, Peter Phillips, the Duke of Gloucester, Sir Tim Laurence and Earl Snowdon.

Meanwhile, the Countess of Wessex travelled from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster by a car which she shared with the Duchess of Sussex.

Sophie has looked visibly moved by the events of the past weeks, and was clearly very emotional when viewing the tributes left outside Balmoral Castle over the weekend.
