The Queen shows support for Kate’s carol service with Christmas tree gift

The Queen donated Christmas trees from Windsor Great Park to stand in Westminster Abbey for the carol service organised there by the Duchess of Cambridge.

And Kate spent the day before the concert helping decorate the Abbey as final preparations for the event took place.

Decorations for the Abbey also included specially designed wreaths, donated by the Royal Horticultural Society.

The event, ”Together at Christmas”, took place on December 8th 2021. It was spearheaded by the Duchess of Cambridge along with the Royal Foundation.

In a specially recorded introduction, shared ahead of the broadcast, the Duchess explains that she wanted to thank all those who have gone above and beyond expectations to support their communities as the coronavirus pandemic took hold and developed. The service was also focused on offering support to those who have struggled during the ever changing challenges of the pandemic. It also aims to celebrate acts of kindness shown by millions across the country during the past two years.

Guests at the concert included unsung heroes from across the UK who were nominated to attend by charities, community networks and Lord Lieutenants as well as organisations with royal patrons. Members of the Armed Forces also attended as did some of those the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have met on engagements across the country focused on how communities are supporting one another during the pandemic.

The Duke of Cambridge gave a reading at the service which was also attended by Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, the Countess of Wessex and Zara Tindall. The Duchess’ parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, and her sister, Pippa, and brother, James, were also there to support her.

”Together at Christmas” will be broadcast in the UK on ITV1 on Christmas Eve at 7.30pm.
