The Duke of Cambridge celebrates fundraiser Captain Tom Moore

The Duke of Cambridge has praised the achievements of Captain Tom Moore, the military veteran whose campaign to raise funds for the NHS has broken records. Prince William told the former soldier that he was ”amazing,’ and a ”one man fund raising machine”.

The Duke, with the Duchess of Cambridge, had a special message for Captain Moore whose fundraising efforts have so far brought in £17 million for the NHS. It was shared with the former soldier on BBC Breakfast.

William said ”it is incredible, it is amazing and what I love is that he’s also a 99 year old war vet, he’s been around a long time, he knows everything and it’s wonderful that everyone has been inspired by his story and his determination”.

Captain Moore was equally thrilled to get the message, saying it was ”amazing that my super Prince can say something like that”.

Captain Tom Moore, who is 99, originally pledged to raise £1,000 for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday. However, he far outstripped that and as he completed his final lap earlier this week, with a socially distanced guard of honour waiting for him, the total was heading towards £17 million, a sum passed by Friday morning.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have made an undisclosed private donation to Captain Moore’s campaign.
