The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge depart for their Royal Train Tour of the UK

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Euston Station

The Royal Train Tour of the UK is under way after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge headed off from London on a three day visit which will see them meet and thank some of those who have given vital support to local communities over the past months of the coronavirus pandemic.

William and Kate left Euston Station on the evening of December 6th on board the Royal Train which will carry them hundreds of miles in the coming days.

The couple met transport workers at Euston, talking to them about their experiences over the past months and hearing about the ways in which they have adapted their roles throughout the pandemic to provide extra support to passengers and maintain safety for all.

The usually packed concourse at Euston was all but empty as travel continues to be impacted by the restrictions brought about by the pandemic. A few dozen passengers were waiting for trains as the royal party arrived and they were all treated to a special performance of ”Merry Christmas, Everyone” by Shakin’ Stevens who was there to sing the couple on their way.

The Duke and Duchess then boarded the Royal Train for the first leg of their journey. Royal Central will bring you the latest details of the tour over the coming days.
