Buckingham Palace confirms cancellation of State Visit

The Emperor and Empress of Japan won’t now make a State Visit to the United Kingdom this Spring. Confirmation that the visit was off came from Buckingham Palace which said the event would be rescheduled for a later date.

Emperor Naruhito was due to make his first State Visit since he ascended the Chrysanthemem Throne last year. However, given the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, it has now been decided to put the trip back.

Reports that Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako wouldn’t be making their visit had been circulating for several days. No specific dates had been announced for the visit which would have seen the Queen hosting her guests at Windsor Castle.
