Armed intruder arrested in grounds of Windsor Castle where The Queen is celebrating Christmas

A man has been arrested after attempting to break into Windsor Castle this morning.

According to the Daily Mirror, police arrested the man who is now in police custody.

He allegedly had an offensive weapon in his possession.

Thames Valley Police say the intruder did not gain access to any buildings.

The Queen is currently at Windsor celebrating Christmas with some of her family.

In the morning, the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall attended Church at St George’s Chapel alongside the Wessex Family and the Duke & Duchess of Gloucester.

The Royal Family have been informed of the incident.

Police Superintendent Rebecca Mears, said: “An investigation is ongoing following this incident and we are working with colleagues from the Metropolitan police.

“The man has been arrested on suspicion of breach or trespass of a protected site and possession of an offensive weapon. He remains in custody at this time.

“We can confirm security processes were triggered within moments of the man entering the grounds and he did not enter any buildings.

“Members of the Royal Family have been informed about the incident.

“We do not believe there is a wider danger to the public.”
