The Princess Royal to attend the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi

<![CDATA[The Princess Royal will be attending the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics in February. The Princess will be accompanied by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence. As President of the British Olympic Association, Anne and Sir Timothy will spend some time before the opening of the Games in the host country. Since 1983, Anne has been the President of the British Olympic Association.
The Princess Royal will attend the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russian Federation in February.
The time spent after the games is considered a Foreign Office trip where the couple are expected to makes stops in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Their four day visit will have them spend Valentine’s Day in the Russian Federation.
The city of Sochi is in Krasnodar Krai, Russia. It is located on the Black Sea coast near the border between Georgia, Abkhazia and Russia.
As a keen equestrian, she competed in the 1971 European Eventing Championships winning a gold medal, and then again in 1975 where she won two silver medals. The Royal was voted the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 1971. In 1976, she represented not only her country but the Royal Family at the Olympic Games in Montreal riding Her Majesty’s Horse, Goodwill.
Since 1988, the Princess has been an IOC member and was also on the LOCOG Board. LOCOG was The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The board was the organisation in charge of managing the planning and development of the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Until her daughter, Zara Phillips, competed in the 2012 London Olympics, Anne was the only Royal to have competed in the international games.
