Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor seen with severe bruising on face as he leaves home at Sandringham

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was photographed with a large bruise across his face in a rare appearance outside his home at Sandringham.

The former prince was snapped as he drove near his new residence at Wood Farm, in the grounds of the estate, where he has lived since Februar.

Spotted at the wheel of his car, Andrew was seen with a large, very purple bruise that encircled one eye and spread down his cheek and towards his hairline.

The bruise appeared to cover around a quarter of his face and the marks were severe directly above his eyye.

There has been no word from the former prince or the Palace as to what caused the bruising.

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, 66,has kept a low profile in recent months after he was arrested by officers on suspicion of misconduct in public office earlier this year. He was detained on his birthday and held for 11 hours before being released without charge and under investigation. Officers also searched his new home on the Sandringham estate as well as his former residence at Royal Lodge on the Windsor estate where he lived for over 20 years. He has denied any wrongdoing.

Earlier this year, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was mentioned repeatedly in the Epstein files. The papers showed a friendship with the convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein, that extended across years.

King Charles stripped his brother of his royal titles and honours in October 2025. The King issued Letters Patent to remove Andrew’s HRH and Prince and wrote to the Lord Chancellor, asking him to strike the title of Duke of York from the Roll of Peerage. Andrew also lost honours including membership of the Order of the Garter. He remains eighth in line to the throne.

The second son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip gave up public duties in 2019 but he continued to join the Royal Family at occasions including Christmas and Easter celebrations. He has not been seen with other royals since September 2025 when he attended the funeral of the Duchess of Kent at Westmnsnter Cathedral.

Along with his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, he did attend private events marking the christening of their youngest granddaughter, Athena Mapelli Mozzi, in late 2025.
