While many other royals have been spending late July and August in Paris for the Olympics, Queen Margrethe of Denmark has been digging into some Danish history.
The Danish Royal Family has shared photos from the former Danish Queen’s visit to Nørre Snede in Central Jutland to learn about an archaeological excavation taking place.
The University of Copenhagen is working with Moesgaard Museum, Museum Midtjylland, and Horsens Museum to excavate an Iron Age village at Nørre Snede. The village not only shows regular life but also potentially has traces of buildings from the period, as well as larger fortresses.
Her Majesty was able to see people at work in the excavation site and talk to them about their work there and the ongoing project. She also spent some walking throughout the site to see what was currently being excavated.
Queen Margrethe was also given a tour of Horsens Museum where she was able to look at grave-site objects that were originally found in the 1980s and 1990s.
Queen Margrethe formally abdicated in January 2024 with the Danish throne passing to her son, King Frederik. Queen Margrethe has remained busy, though, and has continued to carry out different engagements.
