Queen Camilla welcomes France’s First Lady for literature event

Queen Camilla has had a busy week as she continues her recovery from pneumonia. After taking part in the Qatari State Visit, she welcomed Birgitte Macron to London to award a new literary prize.

The Queen and the French First Lady both attended the first award ceremony for the Entente Littéraire Prize on Wednesday. Held at the French Ambassador’s residence in London, the short-listed books and their authors were announced.

The books being celebrated were: Thieves by Lucie Bryon; Men Don’t Cry by Faïza Guène; Jefferson by Jean-Claude Mourlevat; Par Le Feu by Will Hill; Les Etincelles Invisibles by Elle McNicoll; and Le Livre Bleu De Nebo by Manon Steffan Ros.

The prize was first announced by the pair during The King and Queen’s State Visit to France in September 2023.

The Entente Littéraire Prize will recognise French and British authors writing young adult literature. The prize, aimed at teenagers and young adults, was set up to ”celebrate the pleasure of reading”.

The French First Lady chose a cornflower blue coat dress with sharp lapels and strong shoulders. Her Majesty wore a grey tweed dress and blazer that she complimented with a brooch and black clutch-style handbag.
